Cape Town, South Africa — Efficient, inclusive and accessible public transport is essential for resilient and sustainable cities. Recognizing this, WhereIsMyTransportOakley Icon Oakley Icon Oakley Twill Pant Stretch Twill Pant Pant Stretch Oakley Icon Stretch Twill 0dZwBB and 100 Resilient Cities – Pioneered by The Rockefeller Foundation (100RC) have joined forces to help emerging cities make better informed public transport decisions and understand how their systems work on the ground. As part of the partnership, WhereIsMyTransport will provide tailored training and workshops to cities in the 100RC Network as they plan and design transport infrastructure.

WhereIsMyTransport is the first of 100RC’s “C9 Athletic By Champion Shorts Boutique Rxa6qw” to be based in Africa. This prestigious and diverse group has committed to helping cities around the world prepare for, withstand, and bounce back from the ‘shocks’ – catastrophic events like hurricanes, fires, and floods – and ‘stresses’ – slow-moving disasters like traffic congestion, aging infrastructure, and economic inequality – which are increasingly part of 21st century life.

Transport infrastructure has substantial implications for cities at the spatial, economic, environmental and social levels. Promoting and building for an integrated public transport system, for example, is the most effective response to congestion, air quality, productivity and a greater freedom of movement for citizens. It furthermore opens up access to economic opportunities, social amenities and urban services, and is key to economic development and social inclusivity.

To leverage public transportation toward building urban resilience, cities require access to the right kinds of data about their transport network, systems and modes — and knowing what to do with this information. WhereIsMyTransport will organize workshops for cities in the 100RC Network, providing a technical introduction to data collection and analysis for designing and planning transport interventions; for both formal and informal public transport systems. Training modules will be tailored to each city’s priorities and needs, though popular sessions offered by WhereIsMyTransport include an introduction to the organization’s data collection process, suite of tools for collecting formal and informal data, and how to leverage the data.

Devin de Vries, Co-founder and CEO, WhereIsMyTransport, said “This partnership will allow us to collaborate with 100RC’s established network of cities, understand their needs, and build innovative solutions towards resilience for millions of commuters.”

Michael Berkowitz, President of 100 Resilient Cities, said “In an increasingly complex and challenging world, cities need partnerships with companies like WhereIsMyTransport to withstand the shocks and stresses of the 21st century. Our new partnership will bring needed expertise to 100RC member cities in Africa and worldwide grappling with the dual pressures of inadequate public transportation systems and informal urban service delivery.”

Crucial for building urban resilience is making public transport more attractive and offering excluded groups a more affordable and safer mobility option. Information — collated via data and technology — is essential to achieving these objectives by passengers, planners, and operators alike.
